The Fletcher Foundations Course is a self-paced online learning experience that invites participants to slow down, look deeper, and rediscover the essence of movement. As the prerequisite to all Fletcher Pilates® Intensives within the Comprehensive Program of Study, it establishes the groundwork for meaningful, embodied study and continued professional growth.
Inspired by Clara Pilates’ reminder to “always remember your ABC’s,” this course celebrates the importance of returning to the fundamentals—practicing, refining, and rediscovering the concepts that anchor a lifetime of movement study.
Participants explore four essential Foundations—Movement, Anatomy, Teaching, and History—each offering a distinct yet interconnected way of understanding the Fletcher Pilates® lineage. Through this study, students develop awareness of breath, rhythm, and alignment while engaging with the Fletcher Fundamentals™ and Explorations of Movement. The Anatomy Foundation deepens comprehension of how the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems support intelligent, expressive movement. The Teaching Foundation cultivates clarity in communication, professional standards, and the art of observation and cueing. Finally, the History Foundation connects students to the roots of the Pilates method, the innovation of Ron Fletcher, and the enduring legacy of Joseph and Clara Pilates.
Equally suited to dedicated movers and teaching professionals alike, the course welcomes Pilates practitioners, enthusiasts, educators, fitness and wellness professionals, and therapeutic specialists—anyone interested in deepening their understanding of movement.
Participants engage with the material at their own pace, gaining confidence, clarity, and renewed connection to the origins and artistry of Pilates. Whether approached as preparation for future Intensives or as a stand-alone course, the Fletcher Foundations Course nurtures a deeper understanding of the language, logic, and spirit of Fletcher Pilates®—a return to mindful, embodied movement that supports a lifetime of growth.
